Norhalla Crew on the Deck of Draken Harald Hårfagre
Vikings Then & Now
The Draken Harald Hårfagre (English: Dragon Harald Fairhair) is the worlds largest Viking ship sailing from Norway to America. The expedition left in April 2016 and made their way across the Atlantic to America. One of their stops on their North American tour was in Fairport Harbor, Ohio in July 2016 on Lake Erie. Norhalla's home town is also on Lake Erie only a couple of hours away, and we couldn't miss the opportunity to see this magnificent ship!
Upon seeing the Draken, our initial impression was awe and amazement. She is a marvel of engineering and craftsmanship.
Draken Harald Hårfagre is a clinker-built Viking longship. She is not a replica of a known ship, she is a reconstruction of what the Norse Sagas refer to as a “Great ship”.
